We thought we would start a new tradition in 2010 by featuring some of our favorite TEDTalks every Tuesday.
There are over 500 TEDTalks available on TED.com, and we have taken a pledge to watch each and every one of them in the hope of finding and sharing all the thought-provoking and awe-inspiring talks that people may have missed.
We can’t promise that every talk we feature will be new to you, but we hope to find a good mix of old and new talks, as well as popular and little known talks.
So without further ado, we bring you Larry Lessig’s TEDTalk on laws that choke creativity. Not only is his talk funny and a bit snarky in a good way, but he’s a champion of ‘recreativity’ who believes that artist choice (e.g., Creative Commons) and the acceptance of read-write culture by businesses are the key to reviving our creative culture. His presentation is also perfectly timed, well delivered, and features a great mix of images and videos.

Last but not least, here’s a quote that really caught my attention:
We made mixed tapes, they remix music. We watched TV, they make TV. It is technology that has made [Kids] different … and we need to recognize [that] you can’t kill the instinct that technology produces, we can only criminalize it. We can’t stop our kids from using it, we can only drive it underground. We can’t make our kids passive again, we can only make them “Pirates”… in a democracy, we need to do better …
- Larry Lessig
We would love to hear what you think about Larry’s talk, and would also like to hear your thoughts and feedback on TEDTalk Tuesdays. Feel free to leave your comments below, and if you have an idea for a TEDTalk we should feature, send it to us via our contact page.
Sincerely,
Tomas Carrillo
